Looking for Something to Do?
There are many ways that you can contribute to the success of the families at The Drake House. Below are some of the many unpaid but invaluable positions that The Drake House can offer. If you see something on the list that strikes your fancy, or something we haven’t thought of yet, contact Gayle at ext. 305. She can give you more details.
Individual:
Office Assistance - Help with administrative tasks, including making copies, word processing, data entry, mail outs, filing, etc.
Food Pantry - Help with the shelving of donations, rotation of shelves, assisting families with their food selections, and general organization.
Childcare/tutoring - Help on Monday nights during our life skills workshops, or during the day for moms to interview for employment or make doctor visits.
Fundraising - Assist with Board of Directors organized fundraising events and/or individually planned events (i.e., silent auction, golf tournament).
IT Coordinator - Provide technical assistance for the computers in each family's apartment or in The Drake Center Computer Room.
Public Relations - Write special events articles for local papers and format quarterly newsletter.
Group:
Assist at The Drake Center with special projects or at The Drake House Apartments with work indoors or outside. A $250 donation is greatly appreciated in order to provide the supplies and materials needed for the tasks. This is a wonderful team building activity for your office, neighborhood, civic or religious group.
Community Service:
We will provide the necessary documentation required by the courts for community service hours in exchange for your help at The Drake House or Center.
Seasonal:: talk to Gayle Kosiba. We are always open for ideas surrounding seasons and holidays.
Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program
Take “ownership” of an apartment by painting and furnishing it, and providing that homey touch. Also provide minor repairs and maintenance to the unit.
Provide volunteers to serve as peer and child advocates for the family, working one on one with the mother and the children to support, encourage, and educate them. These volunteers will be screened and participate in training by The Drake House staff.
Assist the family with move out and ready the apartment for the next Drake House family.
Provide a monthly donation of $300 to The Drake House to assist with utility costs. |
