Group Volunteers and Community Partnerships

Volunteer with your group to complete a special project for The Drake House that will provide a stable housing opportunity for a family experiencing homelessness. Community partners, corporate groups, religious groups, civic groups, and service groups help us make it possible to provide the tools and housing opportunities for women to reach financial stability and provide a better future for their children.

One-Time Group Volunteer Opportunities

Corporate, religious, civic, and service groups play an important role in helping us to maintain The Drake House facilities and complete special projects. Typical group projects include cleaning and sanitizing the rooms of The Drake Center or apartment, painting, landscaping, sorting donations and restocking the food pantry. Donations to cover the cost of project supplies are greatly appreciated.

The best size group for our facility is between 8-12 people. Larger groups can be accommodated by special request and when a special project arises.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor Community Partners (Limited)

Groups participating in The Drake House and The Drake Village community partnerships support a family through their entire time with us.

  • Prior to a family moving into The Drake House, the sponsor team will paint and furnish the apartment, providing a personal touch. The group also may assist with gathering items the family may need while they are in residence.
  • Volunteers within the group are identified to serve as advocates for the family during their stay. They work one-on-one with the mother and her children to offer support and encouragement. These volunteers will be screened and participate in an advocate training session conducted by Drake House staff.
  • The sponsor team has the honor of supporting the family for holidays, birthdays, and other life events.
  • During the family's transition out of The Drake House, the group will assist the family with move-out tasks like gathering used furniture and household items for the family's new home. The group then readies the apartment for the next Drake House family.
  • Neighbor-to-Neighbor Partners also make monthly financial commitments to assist with utilities, insurance, maintenance and other housing costs.
  • A plaque denoting their sponsorship is placed near the doorway to the apartment.
